Who should sit this GCSE Biology equivalency exam?

You require a GCSE Biology equivalency for entry into a higher education course that accepts GCSE equivalencies (typically teacher training QTS, midwifery and nursing).

Be aware the GCSE Biology equivalency is a single science discipline and therefore requires a strong depth of knowledge and understanding. The GCSE Combined Science equivalency test is spread more across Biology, Chemistry and Physics and therefore it has greater breadth but slightly less depth.

GCSE Biology Equivalency Testing Info

This exam is an online exam. The timings have been modified to allow you to sit the exam online. Your answers must be submitted online.

If you wish to sit a paper-based exam please see the link below:
Paper-based Exam

The biology equivalency consists of short-form answers along with multiple choice. Questions range from 1 to 6 marks of different lengths and formats.

For your exam day please prepare the following:

  1. The ability to carry out a video call on a laptop or desktop computer
  2. A web cam and audio
  3. An acceptable form of ID
  4. Pen, paper and scientific calculator.
  5. A Smartphone (to submit your answers if you complete them on paper).

The online exams are easy to access and you do not need any technical experience in order to be able to do this. The invigilators will connect with you over Zoom and then share the exams system. The questions will be on-screen with the answer boxes directly underneath for you to type into.

This GCSE Biology Equivalency Exam consists of only a single benchmarked paper. In addition, there is no coursework component. Therefore, the Biology IGCSE is the better option for equivalency students, studying remotely for a Biology GCSE Equivalency test.

The GCSE Biology Equivalency Exam is a single 2-hour exam benchmarked against the Edexcel IGCSE Biology Specification. Questions in the exam may come from any topic across this specification (including all points in bold). This is a single GCSE award. The Biology Equivalency exam covers grades 9 to 1 (A* to G) for both foundation and higher students.

The A Star Biology equivalency course is the perfect way to revise for this exam. The course contains all the resources you need to prepare effectively for this exam.

  1. What can I say! So so pleased with the service from A Star from start to finish. Quick and easy to book with a wide selection of time slots available. Very efficient communication throughout the process and always someone on hand to help with queries. The invigilator was very friendly and easy going and I passed first time! I didn’t purchase the course due to funding issues, but they provide so many helpful revision materials if you’re on a tight budget. Thank you so much A Star for helping me on my journey to my PGCE.

  2. I booked my exam 4 weeks before my exam as I was a tight schedule. I purchased both the course material and exam, which I thought was expensive to begin with. However, I wouldn’t have been able to pass in the short time frame without the course material. I feel the course material is KEY to passing the exam! I put the hours in using the material which allowed me to pass. I then sat my exam via a google meeting. My invigilator was lovely, talked me through the whole process of sitting the exam and was on the other side of the screen if I was to get unsure on how to use the exam portal.
Once I sat my exam, I added fast track for my results which was added immediately. I received my results back within the 48 hour time period and my certificate within the 3 day period.
A Star were easy to contact using there direct chat.
I would 100% recommend using them.

  3. Need to get a Grade 4 for Teacher Training and I achieved this through AStar Equivalency! As a mature student it was over 30 years since I actually sat (and failed) my original biology GCSE so I put off doing this until the last minute. The process was really easy, invigilator calming and put me at ease with clear directions and instructions on the day if the exam. Would highly recommend AStar!! Thank you

  5. I am doing secondary teaching so managed to avoid the combined science and just got Biology. The resources are helpful and I feel like I was supported in preparing for the exam. It is hard work if you have work, children and other commitments but a little revision but often did the trick for me.

  6. I like the human biology stuff but less so on the plant cells and things like that. The pass mark wasn’t too high but make sure you revise.

  10. As I am teaching secondary they said I could do Biology equivalency instead of combined science. Glad I did, as personally I find chemistry the hardest. The Biology course really helped as it takes you through everything you need to know for test day.
