How to get maths GCSE quickly
We provide academic support for students of all abilities at A Star Equivalency. We see a lot of students who need a maths qualification on a short deadline, often asking how to get a maths GCSE quickly. Standard GCSE exams have a few limitations so this process is sometimes not as easy as people may think, the main one being that they have restricted dates in November and May/June in which they can be done. Despite this, there are other options which we will look at in this post.
The main alternative that students will choose to use is functional skills maths level 2. This qualification is equivalent to a grade C at GCSE and is widely received by universities and employers. This exam is very flexible, it is sat at your own home and can be done on a day and time that works best for you. When we compare this to the standard GCSE, it’s clear why functional skills is a better option for a lot of adult learners. GCSE exams are entirely paper based and must be sat in registered exam centres. There are 3 exams to sit which can only be sat on specified dates and times with no option to change them. The issue this causes for a lot of learners is that they aren’t able to travel to the exam centre on these dates and therefore can’t do the GCSE exams. With these being paper based, exam results take around 6 weeks. When you need a maths GCSE quickly, functional skills will provide you with results in a number of days. There is a second option available with GCSE equivalency tests. These aren’t as widely accepted as GCSEs or functional skills, so if this is an option you want to look at then it’s important to keep this in mind.
In summary, the option that’s best for you depends on the time of year and how soon you need results. Functional skills exams can be sat all year and have quicker results and so are usually the best way to get a maths GCSE quickly.
