The tutoring on the biology videos was excellent – clear and interesting and it is because of the outstanding teaching that I was able to gain grade 9 in the exam. So, I would like to say a very big thank you to the tutor. The course requires a real commitment from you and it took a year for me to complete – there are no short cuts – I learnt so much and really enjoyed the subject. During my year I had a few queries about the exam, the course itself and the admin side of things and found the admin lady I dealt with to be very professional and prompt in sorting out and responding to the queries I had. I’ve actually really enjoyed studying biology. I’ve realised how much I loved ecology, anything to do with plants and strangely gas exchanges! Some things did stick, some things not! I haven’t got my results but I’m afraid I may have not passed but that is not a reflection of A* equivalency! There was always someone at the end of a phone line or email. I would recommend them to others! Jade in particular was very supportive and patient with me from first registering to offering support! I wanted this equivalency test to move on into teaching. It may still happen, I’ll just have to wait for my results first!

I recently passed my biology test with A Star and did better than I thought. I opted for the fast track result and got notification within the promised 2 day time scale. The certificate came very quickly and I can happily say that I’m now on my way to doing my Primary PGCE.
As a mature student who originally did my Science GCSE back in the 1990s, it was a daunting prospect. I bought the course bundle which really helped me to revise the topics and understand how to answer exam questions. The online exam was well organised and straight forward. I highly recommend A Star! I completed the biology course with Astar and the experience was good. I sat my exam on Friday and recieved my results that I passed first time with a Grade 7!! I can now go onto my teaching course 🙂
I purchased the full course with all the learning materials at the start of December. I attended the online lessons with Sam and also used the youtube videos to help me. I made notes on everything, made cue cards, revised every day and did all the revision questions and past papers that Astar sent with the course. This really helped me with understanding how the exam would be. Anything I got wrong in the past papers, I would learn again. Remember the revision questions because it is helpful, as the questions are similar to the exam. The exam itself was very easy to follow and was delivered smoothly. I didn’t manage to finish all the exam questions on time so do try time management.
If anyone is debating on doing the course, do it! Give yourself a good few months to learn the course properly as there is a lot. And eventhough all the materials are expensive, it was really helpful so I would recommend buying it as I wouldn’t have been able to pass without it. Astar itself are really helpful with customer service and answering questions. The only reason I gave 4 stats was due to the pricing. As paying to rearrange the exam, £60 for fast track and £20 for a certificate is unnecessarily expensive.

Had to sit twice. First time I didn’t pass, I used bitesize and gcse books but the exam had questions that wasn’t covered in revision. I bought the course 2nd time and passed at level 8. Giving it 4 stars as the process was easy to book, exam was comfortable and examiner lovely. Didn’t need to contact about anything A star sorted it all out remotely keeping me in the loop. But they do force your hand in buying the course which is so expensive. So I really reccomend buying the course unless you are a biology wizz as your more likley to get a pass. The course is good and webinars helpful. You do need a good knowledge of biology as the exam ia hard and the study in depth, or be prepared to pack the study in. I think combined would be eaiser for general knowledge. Overall I am pleased, and now I’m able to start my teacher training. Thanks A star.
